A Year of Shakespeare

Isn’t that a wonderful headline? It’s not mine — duh. Surely you didn’t expect me to come up with anything that good!

It comes from the NY Times, goof. And since we (ahem!) will be reading As You Like It next month, you may not cite it as yet another instance of my straying wildly off course.

In fact, it features Sam Mendes as director, a man I hold in high regard for the most part, and fear for some strange unknown reason. Perhaps it is what he did with the Lovebirds that makes me cringe. Or Road to Perdition. God I hated that film.

But there’s always American Beauty, which I rave about at odd, random moments and already cited without mentioning him in particular.
